Type Statue

'Stepped granite plinth and tall pedestal with moulded base and cornice.' Standing male figure in top-coat with right leg slightly forward. Holding small book in left hand and papers in right hand. Draped heraldic pedestal to rear of statue. John Henry Vivian, M.P. (1785-1855)

Incised on front of pedestal and painted gold: IOHN HENRY VIVIAN / ESQ. FRS. FGS. MP. / WHO REPRESENTED THIS BOROUGH / AND ITS CONTRIBUTORIES / IN / SIX SUCCESSIVE PARLIAMENTS / ERECTED / BY HIS CONSTITUENTS AND FRIENDS / A.D. MDCCCLVII. Incised on rear of pedestal and painted gold: BORN AT TRURO / MDCCLXXXV / HE DIED AT SINGLETON / MDCCCLV / UNIVERSALLY LAMENTED
