150th Anniversary Tolpuddle Martyrs' Plaque

The bronze hexagon has a central male figure with manacles on his hands linked to a chain to his feet. He stands in front of a blank banner and a tree -its roots are interwoven with strips of paper containing evocative messages of workers protests in English history. Inthe background to the upper left is a court scene with a judge, bewigged and with a gavel, and five prisonnersin a dock. A fierce heraldic lion is animated to hold a staff. To the upper right handside a man and woman cling to each other in distress and a representation of a large crowd of people is addressed by a male speaker with a loudhailer.
