Detail from: Memorial to 158 Squadron by Peter W. Naylor, 2009

3B Series 1

Type Sculpture

The simple forms of the square, circle and rectangle are enlarged and juxtaposed.(1) The forms are juxtaposed in different combinations, creating a sense of play with the internal forms and spaces of the piece. This architectural work is the focus of the square and its bright red colour contrasts with the surrounding grey stone of the amphitheatre and angular residences.
Purchased from the sculptor in 1968 with the assistance of the Arts Council of Great Britain 'Works for Public Buildings' Scheme.(2)
