Christ in Majesty

     A twelfth century tympanum showing Christ enthroned within a mandola, his right and raised in blessing, he is surrounded by angels. The curved border above contains the remains of a knotwork frieze. The sculpture is badly weathered, with much of the detail lost. (description taken from illustration in Shoesmith (1). ) The representation is very similar to that at Shobden.
     Original tympanum of Norman chapel.


The unique Tympanum set in this wall showing Christ in Majesty supported by four Angels. Remains of 12c Round Church stood at east end of hospital.
