Summary

Type Sculpture

Three wooden and one stone and metal sculpture set in landscaped garden to side of Theatre Felinfach. Education is represented by the open book, Industry by the milk churn and Culture by the drama masks. The inscription notes that these three support the spirit of rural life. In the centre of the sculpture area is a large wooden candle representing the Candle of Hope.
Information from Artworks Wales: 'Theatr Felinfach is a community theatre which works closely with the community developing a programme of self generated theatre which reflects its rural locality and circumstances. It is sited on land donated twenty years ago by Simon Davies. The theatre wished to work with a sculptor to create a permanent reminder of Simon Davies' contribution to the area and to celebrate the achievements of the theatre's first twenty years. The sculpture was commissioned by Aerwyl 96, a committee of local people associated with the theatre. The commission was advertised and the winning design was by David Lloyd who spent several months in residence at Theatr Felinfach.
The sculpture is in memory of alderman Simon Davies of Greengrove. He was a local benefactor and philanthropist who donated a large amount of land including the land on which Theatr Felinfach was built.
