John Viriamu Jones, F.R.S., J.P. (1856-1901) Principal and Professor of Physics, University College, Cardiff. John Viriamu Jones was born at Pentreporth, near Swansea; educated at University College, London, and Balliol College, Oxford. He was the Principal of Firth College, Sheffield, 1881-83; elected to Fellowship at Jesus College, Oxford, 1897. He was the first Principal of University College, Cardiff (1883) and the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales (1895-96) He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1894.
