Captain Cat


Type Statue

     Bronze life-size figure of sea captain with beard, peaked cap, short jacket, rubber boots, holding onto a piece of rope with bell attached to end. Looking out over water.
          Captain Cat was the blind sea captain from 'Under Milk Wood' who gazes out towards 'the clippered seas he sailed long ago when his eyes were blue and bright.'


Inscription on bronze plate fixed at foot of sculpture: CAPTAIN CAT / "The sleepers are rung out of sleep / with his loud get-out-of-bed bell" / from / Under Milk Wood / by / Dylan Thomas / Captain Cat by Robert Thomas was / commissioned by Swansea City / Council and unveiled by / Councillor Tyssul Lewis Leader / of the Council, on 1st March, 1990
