Alun Lewis Memorial Plaque
Bronze plaque, head and shoulders, head half turned.
Alun Lewis (1915-44), poet and writer, was born at Cwmaman. He attended University College Aberystwyth and Manchester University. He taught history at Pengam Grammar School before joining the Royal Engineers. Later he obtained a commission and served with the South Wales Borderers. He went to India in 1943 and was killed in an accident at Arakan in March 1944.
