Taff Trail Relief Map

Type Sculpture

The map was constructed by Pioneer Arts with help from four schools; Mount Stuart Primary School in Brecon, Ysgol-y-Graig in Merthyr Tydfil, Coed-y-Lan Comprehensive in Pontypridd and Glynderw High School in Ely.
The opening of the Taff Trail was held in the grounds of Cyfarthfa Castle with representatives of the public and private organisations who had supported the project. Each delegate was presented with a terracotta block which was pieced together into a giant jigsaw on the forecourt of the castle and gradually the relief map took shape. The 55 mile trail runs from Cardiff to Brecon with the idea originally launched in 1988 with the vision of creating a safe and attractive long-distance footpath and cycle way. The project was co-ordinated by the Merthyr and Cynon Groundwork Trust and a range of organisations including local authorities, private enterprise and the voluntary sector.

Map includes names of towns on Taff Trail: Brecon, Talybont, Merthyr, Pontypridd and Cardiff.
