The Cwmbran Giant

Summary

Type Sculpture , Statue

     Tall bronze statue of man ('giant') with a young child on his shoulders. Set on square shallow stone plinth behind railings in the Water Gardens.
     The work was commissioned by the Cwmbran Arts Trust as a gift to the people of Cwmbran to celebrate the Millennium. Information at the site states that donations came from Prudential and Asda. The work was unveiled by Lord Raglan in September 2000.
     The work celebrates the Millennium and represents both old and new centuries. Information from Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre: 'The bronze giant with a young child on his shoulder is stepping into the future. They are indivisible. It is the old into the new.'
