"Beside The Seaside ... Beside The Sea"

Type Sculpture

Large ship's steering wheel fixed to embankment by two metal poles. Inset in wheel is a small boat sailing on two waves and flying the Welsh flag. A blond woman is sunbathing at one end of the boat. She is sitting on the edge with her right arm outstretched holding a piece of rigging, her left arm is held over the side of the boat holding a towel. A male figure in vest and shorts is sitting in the boat at the other end. The line is flexed as he is reeling in his catch - an old boot. A young boy with flippers and goggles holds on to the outside of the boat as if he has just returned from swimming. He is looking to his right. Between the man and woman is a lifebelt upon which is perched a large seagull. The wheel and poles are painted blue with assorted colours used for the figures.

Inscription in white painted letters around lower rim of wheel: CROESO I YNYS Y BARRI / WELCOME TO BARRY ISLAND
