The Boy David, War Memorial, Chelsea Embankment


Type Sculpture , War Memorial

     Figure of David stands on slab facing south with head turned to west. Right hand holds sword which rests by his feet. At his feet is Goliah's head. David's left hand rests (palm up) by his left hip. Right leg slightly bent, slings hangs from left wrist. Pedestal is a circular column which support bronze moulding and slab capital. Arthur Byron, London Statues.


Stone plaque on east face of plinth: THE BOY DAVID / BY BAINBRIDGE COPNALL M.B.E.P.P.R.B.S. / A MEMORIAL TO THE MEMBERS OF / THE MACHINE GUN CORPS WHO / SERVED IN WORLD WAR I Inscription on west face illegible.
