South Coast Path

Summary

Two large hands hold an unfolding map. From the front the grid of the map is open so that the sky and landscape can be seen and the north coast of Somerset is shown in cut-out metal. The rear of the panel, to the east, has the raised lettering, the relief symbol of that Association and a relief map showing the whole route of the coastal path with Minehead and Poole to indicate the beginning and end.
This sculpture faces into the Severn Esturary close to access to the Coastal Path. Funding for the work came from the South West Coast Path Association. The Countryside Agency, West Somerset Dirstrict Council and the Environment Agency were also partners in the project. The young designer, Sarah Ward, was studying at the West Somerset Community College.
