Erith's History


Type Mural

          The Great Harry, Henry the Eighth's great warship which was fitted out at Erith which had a Royal Dockyard. The death of Thomas a Becket; Richard Lucy was in the plot and his penance was to build an abbey, Lesnes Abbey at Abbey Wood, now a ruin. Magna Carta, a meeting between the two sides (king and barons?) at Erith although there is no evidence that the meeting actually took place.
